During his stay in Egypt in the year 712 AH, Shaykh al-Islām Abū al-Abbās Taqiyy al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyyah—Allah sanctify his secret and illuminate his shrine—was asked to give a commentary on the creed authored by Shaykh Shams al-Dīn Muhammad ibn al-Aṣfahānī, the renowned imam of kalam about whom it was said that Egypt never saw a senior dialectic theologian of his calibre. He obliged, though excused himself that in doing so, he cannot but oppose some of its intentions as per what Islamic principles dictate.

We all love stories; we love to hear them, and we love to tell them. Humans have long used storytelling to convey their most intimate emotions. Whether fact or fiction, stories have afforded humanity a chance to both express themselves and explore their inner selves. In this book, I recount my personal story, which took me from the darkness of nihilism to the light of Islam—a transformative path that guided me from a life devoid of direction to one filled with meaning. I hope and pray that this book serves as a means of guidance for those lost without God and those who may have strayed from the straight path.
